This package also includes custom-designed airport sceneries for Joint Base Andrews (KADW), Potomac Airfield (KVKX), and College Park Airport (KCGS). Washington, D.C., was established in 1791 as the newly designated capital of the United States, strategically located along the Potomac River. President George Washington appointed French-born architect Pierre (Peter) Charles L’Enfant to design the city, drawing inspiration from the grand urban layouts of European capitals such as Paris, Amsterdam, Karlsruhe, and Milan. His ambitious vision included an expansive, garden-lined avenue—now the National Mall—stretching approximately one mile (1.6 km) in length and 400 feet (120 m) in width, flanked by some of the most historically significant buildings in the nation.

Throughout the centuries, Washington has remained at the epicenter of American governance, culture, and diplomacy. As the seat of power, the city houses the three branches of the U.S. federal government: the legislative branch (Congress), the executive branch (the President and the White House), and the judicial branch (the Supreme Court). In addition to being the nation’s political hub, Washington is home to 177 foreign embassies and numerous global organizations, including the World Bank Group, International Monetary Fund (IMF), Organization of American States, National Geographic Society, and the American Red Cross.

With an estimated population exceeding 700,000, Washington, D.C., ranks as the 20th most populous city in the United States. However, during the workweek, an influx of commuters from the surrounding Maryland and Virginia suburbs raises the city's daytime population to well over a million. The greater Washington metropolitan area, spanning parts of Maryland, Virginia, and even West Virginia, is the sixth largest metro region in the country, with a 2017 estimated population of 6.2 million.

Beyond its political significance, Washington, D.C., is a cultural and historical treasure trove, boasting an unparalleled collection of museums, galleries, and monuments. Many of these institutions, including the Smithsonian Museums, the National Archives, the Library of Congress, and the National Gallery of Art, are free to the public, offering an immersive experience of the nation's history and artistic achievements. The city is also home to renowned performing arts venues such as the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and historic theaters like Ford’s Theatre, where President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated.
