Mercedita Airport (ICAO: TJPS) is one of three airports in Puerto Rico to feature regularly scheduled (jet) airline flights. It is currently serviced by three low-cost airlines connecting Ponce to Orlando (KMCO) and New York (JFK): JetBlue, Spirit, and Frontier.
These three airlines normally operate Airbus A320 (all variants), and an occasional EMB-190 (JetBlue). The airport has also been serviced in the past by airlines such as Eastern, American, American Eagle, Cape Air, and Carnival Airways.
Ponce Airport also sees a lot of Military Airlift traffic, mostly C-17s on Tech Stops, but in the past it has been visited by C-5s, C-141s, C-130s and KC-135s.
Mercedita makes for a great simulator scenery, as it can provide a comfortable 2.5 hr flight from Orlando, ending on a manual RNAV approach, with no need for accelerated simulation.
Once in Ponce, the scenery is full of custom landmarks to make local VFR flights very pleasant. Mercedita has also hosted other famous visitors such as Air Force One. The ramp can comfortably accommodate aircraft as large as 767.
